Auria Pro Performance Comparison – Ipad Air 2 vs Ipad Pro
Auria Pro Performance Comparison – Ipad Air 2 vs Ipad Pro
Question for Users
Received a new iPad Pro and loaded Auria Pro. Wanted to do some testing of performance gains between iPad Air 2 and iPad Pro. Rebooted both tablets and loaded "The Approach" demo file in both. Ran both simultaneously to get a quick measure of how the added power of the A9X would impact the CPU meter in the iPad Pro. Unfortunately the performance was identical ... no improvement what so ever. Anyone have ideas as to why the Pro with a more powerful CPU and more RAM did not reduce the CPU load on the demo file?

Re: Auria Pro Performance Comparison – Ipad Air 2 vs Ipad Pr
We saw a 1.5x - 1.6x increase in speed on the same projects in our tests here, but it depends heavily on which plugins are used and the buffer size. My guess is you might have a different buffer size on your two iPads. If you have any other apps running, they will set the buffer size, affecting the performance of Auria. So I recommend:
1. Shutting down all apps on both iPads with the home button.
2. Go into Auria's settings and make sure Audiobus mode is not enabled on either iPad.
3. Load the demo song and press play. The MAX CPU reading is a more accurate reading, since it measures peak CPU usage, so I suggest using that mode on both.

Does it come with iPad Pro?
Are you a beta tester?

Thanks for the insight.
Before testing I confirmed no background apps were running and Audiobus was off.
I assumed playing the same demo song simultaneously on both tablets would illustrate the performance gains in the new hardware. Unfortunately that is not evident in my case.

Sorry running standard Auria. Not a Beta Tester.

Good. Make sure you use CPU MAX mode, as it's the only way to really compare CPU usage. Normal mode fluctuates, so it's difficult to really compare.

My quick performance test Auria setup on Air2:
- 16 track of 24/48 audio,
- On every track: - Channel Strip - Stereo softener preset, ProQ stereo/mono - Drums preset
- four instance of convol rev- (cpu low mode-off) Hall, Ambient hall, Vocal hallx2
- (one) instance of virsyn Audio reverb - Ballad hall preset on master channel
- channel automation R-on
- buffer - 256
Load about 59% This is about fresh dual core desk i3/mobile i5 pc class performance.
Far better than my 5 years old AMD notebook
Air2 is futureproof for Auria Pro..

Re: Auria Pro Performance Comparison – Ipad Air 2 vs Ipad Pr
Auratech, as I mentioned, CPU readings are not very useful unless you put the CPU meter into MAX mode. It's really the only way to accurately measure CPU usage because the normal mode doesn't pick up small peaks that have a big impact on performance. there could be as much as a 20% difference in some cases. I typically rewind a project, put it into MAX mode and play for a minute or so.

For me the most accurate measurement the mixdown time.
it's not bad eitherFor me the most accurate measurement the mixdown time.

Sorry, I thought you were comparing to your iPad Pro. Yes, I agree, that looks very good.

Hi there, am running Auria V2, and was wondering what this Buffer size is. Mine is set to 512, and what does it mean if I'm not using MIDI and only Audio files? What is the best buffer size for Audio files and for a mix down? Thanks in advance! So far I'm not using MIDI on the IPad. I do all that on my Ableton suite, but just do the Mixdown on Auria.
Great job with V2!

Sorry i forgot to mention Im using an iPad Air 2 on IOS8. Cheers RIMM!
Re: Auria Pro Performance Comparison – Ipad Air 2 vs Ipad Pr
For audio the best buffer size for reducing CPU usage is 4096.
