Some nice convolution reverb impulse files...

Post by Spud » Thu Sep 26, 2013 6:28 am

For those who want to try some nice Bricasti M7 reverbs in Auria, here's a quick rundown:

Download the appropriate IR file package from this page http://www.samplicity.com/bricasti-m7-i ... responses/

You need to match the sample rate of the IR file to that of the project. You want the M-S file of each preset.

Use iExplorer or iFunbox to copy the M7 IR files to the auria/documents/IR Files folder on the ipad. Best to use folders to keep it all organised.

Enjoy, and make a donation to Samplicity!

Thanks Spud. I had not heard of Bricasti.

Thanks, Spud :)

Is it the 32bit ones (the first two in the list) we should be using with Auria?

Thanks, Spud!

And for those who haven't worked with the Bricasti, it is, in my opinion, a very nice sounding unit. Couple of former Lexicon engineers developed the product. We have one at our facility which has become the 'go to' unit.

Regards,
phil.

Spendy too.

To be honest, I really value the IR's of real spaces, as opposed to samples of reverb units. Always looking though.

I hope I downloaded the right ones.
32bit wave, although I don't understand the M-S part of Spuds statement. Can anyone elaborate?

I think you want the 24 bit samples. I used the 24/44.1 pack as that's what rate the project I'm mixing is. M-s refers to mono to stereo, ie generates a stereo field from a mono track, as I understand it.

Ah, yes. I now notice that the Morevox site says their IRs are 24bit, 44.1MHz, M/S, so I presume that's the way to go. Thanks, Spud.

Oh, okay thanks guys.
I was thinking that M/S was referring to "Mid-side", but I see it means mono/stereo.

Yeah, just not within this context.

how do you use those IR's in a stereo track, for example in a subgroup?

This explanation comes from a different convolution reverb plugin, but explains the different types of stereo conv reverb http://www.liquidsonics.com/software_re ... stereo.htm My guess is that if you insert a conv reverb on a stereo buss it will be parallel stereo reverb. I might be wrong though.

Or do you mean more simply how do you insert conv reverb on a buss?

the Bricasti IR's are mono left and mono right, and one for mono-to-stereo. I don't know what the last one is doing, I would think that the two mono IR's should be used. Should they be converted to a stereo IR before importing into Auria? Or is the mono-to-stereo IR the right one?

99% sure that you just use the mono-stereo file as per normal, and it will process it as per scenario 1 in that link. The Auria conv reverb can't do true stereo as I understand it.

I should add that a "true stereo" IR file is actually four channel, whereas the mono to stereo IR's are just two channel.
