Ive been struggling with Troubleshooting the same stuff. At first I thought it was the firmware of the Zoom H4n. As I have recently upgraded that to 1.72

Anyone having this same issue with older versions of the firmware? Now Im thinking about downgrading my ipad back to 5.11

It seems to me that Apple did something with iOS6 that made it more strict with USB devices. Has anyone contacted Zoom to see if they are aware that the H4N no longer works on an iPad? We don't have any contacts at Zoom.

That's right. I'm using the 2-channel version...

This h4n thing is alarming. Everywhere I have looked has the same post (iOS 6 does not recognise h4n).
Has anyone any insight to this? I still run an iPad 2 on iOS 5.1 so it works for now.

At some point I'll have to upgrade iPad or iOS......

I really suggest contacting zoom about this. They are the only ones who would be able to fix this.

- I contacted zoom support:

"The zoom recorders are not supported by any kind of tablet. You need the proper drivers for the units to work properly as well as a USB port. Adapters don’t always work."

So I'm guessing it was more luck than design that they worked before.
I think it's something that would be beneficial to them.

I agree. If we see them at NAMM this year, we'll mention it to them.

I doubt it will do anything, but I went ahead and sent a request to have this bug fixed via Apple's iPad Feedback form

http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

Maybe if a few of us take the time to say something it will get something done.

The H4n is an such an amazing tool for Music makers on the go it is SUCH a shame that it no longer works and there is no way to downgrade the iOS.

I emailed Zoom as well & asked about ios6 & the H4N (since i have one, & it would make an awesome interface)

they said the same thing - it was just luck it worked in the first place & I shouldn't expect it to work.

I wonder if it is something that could be fixed in software or its a hardware limitation.

Although I used an H4N happily as a standalone recording device, when connected to a Mac I found it highly inadequate. There was a problem with noise from the USB bus when I powered it from an external PSU and the latency was terrible - no way could it be used for monitoring or softsynths. In addition the headphone output was very weak indeed. Zoom don't have a great reputation for regular software updates. I would look elsewhere for a suitable interface.
