Audiobus - is it necessary?

Post by C Holdz » Tue Dec 22, 2020 8:45 am

Auria Pro is the best and only DAW for the iPad Pro (Cubasis 3 is catching up but still not there yet), and the only time I get problems is when using IAA/Au3 audio unit plug ins:

X Drummer by Positive Grid
Drum Session by Blue Mangoo
Rock DM by Lumpbeat

X drummer crashes Auria Pro nearly every session, so I try not to use it at all. Oddly, it runs in Cubasis 3 (then again MIDI is/was steinberg strong suit ), and the others work fairly stable but sometimes there is a crash

Would Audiobus stop these crashes? Is it essential, and are there any OTHER essential, must have tools for an iPad Pro that is really used as a DAW laptop?

Audiobus was originally introduced to exchange audio from one app to another as in the beginning of iOS recording this wasnt possible. But today this isn't really needed as we have file exchange on the iPad. You can use it if you have one app that you want to send through another app but this can be accomplished in easier ways now too. Audiobus has changed over the years to adapt to the new ways in which iOS allows you to interact with it when it comes to creating music so its really not the same app anymore. Unless you have some kind of process that you want to accomplish and you can't do it currently with what you are using then maybe you might find the solution in Audiobus. I personally haven't used it since its first release. Good luck with your music.

If one uses IAA apps that have AudioBus state-saving or apps such as Loopy or BlocsWave that take their audio input from the system or Audiobus or provide remote control access then Audiobus is very useful. It also can link clock types...so if you need to convert AP’s clock to Ableton link. Or if you want to access the multiple outs of multiout AUs Audiobus + AUM is needed.

AB still fills a need for many in connecting audio output and clocks between host apps.
