Noise blips(artifacts)

Post by Struggling musician » Sun Jan 19, 2020 10:14 am

When bouncing multiple tracks I keep getting noise blips even where there should be silence. This is very annoying as I need to consolidate tracks to reduce cpu usage but I want clean recordings. What causes this unwanted noise and how can I prevent it

It’s very hard to guess what could be happening in your specific case without a detailed description of your setup, including your device, IOS version, sample rate, buffer settings and all the plugins you’re using.
A video showing the issue (the “blip” noise as you described) would be of great help too.

Is there anyway I can get pictures of the details to you perhaps an email?

Just post here please, so other users can contribute to finding a solution.
There has to be something specific to your setup that is affecting your project, but without more detailed information it’s almost impossible to guess what’s happening.

I suspect (it’s just a guess for your brief description of your project) that you must be using several heavy plugins which are using a lot of CPU, otherwise you wouldn’t be talking about “consolidating tracks to reduce CPU use”.
I have projects with more than 50 tracks and dozens of plugins running on an iPad Air 2, and I have never “consolidated” tracks. The usual approach is to “freeze” a MIDI track when you are using a heavy synth so Auria Pro bounces it to audio in order to release CPU usage for other tasks. Maybe one of those plugins you’re using is causing issues, maybe not...
But as I said, this is only a guess since we don’t have information on your project.

In order we can better help you and provide a solution to your issue, we really need that you please describe in detail what you’re doing.

If you open a new project with just one track, is the issue present when you bounce this track? With more tracks? Are other projects working fine? Have you tried removing some heavy synths or effects? How’s your CPU meter?

Cheers.

You are correct. I am using quite a few plugins, 3-4 on 30 tracks. I use freeze on all tracks not being processed. Otherwise my cpu usage could spike to 150% or a little higher.
I’m going to try isolating the files I want to bounce on to a new project and see if that works
Thank you

I tried isolation it did not work

This is what the blips look like and this is after the audio has stopped. I can easily remove these but the problem is they’re also embedded in the audio waves in the track and can be heard

These are all gun shots sounds for a home comedy skit. The sounds were recorded from you tube so each track has a gate and an eq. Two have compressors and one has saturation

This is a zoom in of a “blip”

I was on a 2017 64 gb Ipad pro but just just got a 2019 iPad Pro with 256gb, thinking I just needed more space. But it’s the same issue.
Sample rate 44100, buffet size 512
Yes, I’ve tried bounces with all effects turned off and the blips remain. I would wonder if they’re in the recorded tracks except they’re not, only in the bounce track

I begin to try to “consolidate “ tracks because the app keeps crashing, like all the time now. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled. The issue persist . My original intention was to bounce some tracks anyway in order to add automation to one line(track). If I eq out the mid, the blips go away but so the audio but not so with the sides. Blips and audio remains when I eq out the side channel. I’m very new at this as my home project is just for fun. I’ve no idea what I’m doing wrong.
Any help you can provide is appreciated.

You are using one of the newer devices which has its sample rate fixed at 48KHz but your project is at 44.1KHz. This is a known problem for a number of plugins that do not adjust accordingly and can introduce audio artifacts.
Have you tried setting the project at 48KHz, same as your device sample rate?

No I have not tried that. Would I have to begin a new project and set the sample rate there, then download each file or is there a way to set the sample rate of the current project.
Thank you

You need to start a new project since it’s set at the initial screen.
